It was built in 1363 AD by the great campmaster Alexios and his brother John with the support of the Emperor John Palaiologos.

 

Today about 85 monks live in the Monastery, which is located next to the sea and on an impressive cliff and celebrates August 19 (Julian Calendar - Feast of the Transfiguration of the Saviour).
